My Photoshoot Experience
After doing the bodybuilding show I wanted to document my journey through a photoshoot as I had a feeling that I would never look like this again and I can safely say since having a baby and being a busy mum and wife now there is no way I could commit and give the dedication I gave to this prep. It was a dream to achieve stepping on stage and doing a photoshoot, one I never thought I would do when I first started going to the gym so being able to mark this moment was super important to me and meant alot!
One thing I want to note though even though we can appreciate these pictures and think we look great an important reminder to be aware of is I was on an extreme cardio plan, a vigorous bodybuilding plan and a severe strict diet. This lead me to losing my periods so at the time of this photoshoot I wasn't at my healthiest despite looking great and being in/appearing to be in really good shape.
One of the downsides to bodybuilding, photoshoots etc is you are dieted down in a way along with a strict food and cardio plan that can be considered extreme and a-lot of hard work. If you want to do a photoshoot make sure it is your choice, think about why you want to do one and whether the photoshoot is going to be worth it not just for the perfect Instagram shot!
I'm glad I went through this journey to learn the swings and roundabouts of why you have to diet, how to look your best and the hard work it takes. I've learnt that photoshoots aren't for everyone and maybe more suited to a client who is at their healthiest and has been working out for a long time so they can understand the nutrition requirements and hard work it is going to require. Also making sure you have the right support in place is absolutely paramount; before, during and after so that you can build back up your calories sensibly without a huge rebound, making sure you are dieted gradually instead of embarking on restriction from the get go and how to look after yourself post shoot mentally and physically.
I hope my experience can bring more clarity and help you make a more informed decision if you decide to do a photoshoot.
Photoshoots are great but that doesn't mean everyone has to do one in order to feel good!
